Magath strokes Hertha
At Hertha BSC everything was set to relegation before the game started. But against FSV Mainz 05 there was a sobering 1: 2 (1: 1) in the Olympic Stadium.
Felix Magath did not know a sorry: On Sunday morning, the Hertha BSC coach gathered its players for training after a breakfast together and started preparing for the emergency in the fight for relegation.
Magath had previously painted three days off. "For us it is about preparing us for the relegation. As a professional for which I think I am, I prepare for the worst case," said Magath after the 1-2 (1: 1) against FSV Mainz 05.
Magath's assessment of the situation, however, looked very pessimistic. But it was also clear that VfB Stuttgart's defeat on Sunday would guarantee Bayern Munich's master party for another year in the Bundesliga.
In any case, the fingers crossed in Berlin late Sunday afternoon. "They know what they have to do," said Kevin-Prince Boateng: "It has a bit of honor and pride to do. You play at home and get the bowl. You just go full throttle." Magath remained: "I have no influence on it. I am only uninvolved viewers."
Hertha BSC loses control
They had to attribute themselves that the Berliners were at all dependent on shooting aid. Hertha played the chance of the premature league in the Olympic Stadium almost sold out with 71,548 spectators.
"We wanted to close the sack, celebrate with our fans. We hope that it will go out well for us," said Boateng. The interim compensation by Davie Selke (45.+4, penalty) was too little, Silvan Widmer (25th) and Stefan Bell (81st) gave Mainz a deserved victory.
Hertha had lost control after a good initial phase. Structure and pressure on the offensive were missing, technical mistakes and bad passes were formative for the game structure. "It was too little, it wasn't good enough. We weren't clear, not lively," said Boateng.
The starting point had been good. After the defeat of Arminia Bielefeld, the direct descent had already been excluded on Friday, the pressure was lower. After the game against Mainz, Magath found that his team apparently needed "more pressure".
On the last matchday, Hertha guest at the runner -up Borussia Dortmund. "We are Table-15. I would say that the second at home against the 15th more games wins than loses," said Magath.
